Editing PDF Documents with Local Programs

System Requirements: System Requirements for Local PDF Programs

Connect the PDF app to buildagil

In buildagil, open a PDF and click Edit in PDF app.

A window will then appear prompting you to install a utility that establishes a connection between the local PDF app and buildagil.

You can choose which program to use from the following options: Adobe Acrobat, PDF-XChange, Foxit, Power PDF, and Bluebeam. Then click Install to start the download.

Alternatively, you can set OneDrive as the PDF editor so that PDF files open in OneDrive. In this case, the PDF program that is set as the default program for opening PDF files will be used automatically. This allows you to use PDF programs that do not appear in buildagil’s list of options.

For macOS, the connection to Adobe Acrobat and OneDrive is available. For Windows, all programs are available.

In the new version of Adobe Acrobat for macOS and Windows, the "Open in PDF app" feature is currently unavailable, so OneDrive is the only alternative available.

If your PDF app does not appear in the list, please contact buildagil Support. We will check whether it is possible to connect your PDF app to buildagil.

The following article describes how to install the utility: Install buildagil Opener

Change or Disable the Local PDF Program

If you use a different PDF app or want to disable this role, you can click Change Settings when the message appears after opening a PDF document.

A window will then appear where you can select another program. Clicking "Open PDF" opens the document directly in the selected program and saves your choice.

Open PDF documents with the local PDF app

After installing the utility, you can now open the PDF document in your local PDF app by selecting Edit in PDF App.

After clicking Edit in PDF app, a window will appear asking you to confirm that you want to open the document.

If you check the box, this message will no longer appear the next time.

Click Open to open the PDF.

PDF documents cannot be edited locally by multiple people at the same time. Users will receive an error message stating that the document cannot be saved if they attempt to edit a document that is currently checked out.

Editing with a local PDF program

Troubleshooting

If the following troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, please feel free to contact Support.

Troubleshooting When the PDF Program Is Missing

If the following error message appears, the selected PDF program is not installed on the device. Install the program or switch to a different program to resolve the error.

If PDF-XChange is selected in the settings and the program is installed correctly, but the error message "No program was found to open the PDF document" still appears, the installed version of buildagil Opener is not compatible with the version of PDF-XChange.

This can be resolved by installing the new version of the buildagil Opener. The download link can be found in the following article: Installing the buildagil Opener.

Troubleshooting When Deleting Files or Completing Scan Tasks

If files or folders cannot be deleted or verification tasks cannot be completed, this may be due to PDF files that are still checked out. In this case, the files are locked and cannot be deleted or edited. A checked-out PDF file must be checked back in by the person who checked it out. You can determine whether a document is checked out by opening it; a corresponding message will appear.

If the data subject is unable to check out the file, please contact Support.
