In order for the journal entries to be used in the project, they must be activated in the Project settings.

The authorizations and visibility of journal entries are described in the following article: Visibilities on journal entries

Create a new journal entry

Journal entries can be used to record incidents, defects or documentation on the construction site and store and edit them in buildagil. New entries can be added to the project with "Create".

The form of a journal entry can be saved when it is created without having to fill in the complete details. For example, defects can be recorded and pre-sorted directly on the construction site without any obstacles. The entries can be subsequently edited.

Journal templates can also be created to make the creation of journal entries even more efficient. You can find more information in the following article: Journal templates

Edit classification & date / location

When creating a journal, the classification can be set as documentation, defect or incident. The desired categories can also be set here, which can make it easier to search and filter later.

The recording date is automatically entered for the date / location. However, it can still be adjusted later. If the "Use GPS coordinates" role has been activated, the location of the device is automatically used when recording and the recording location is visible on the map for the journal.

Add photos & videos

In Photos & Videos, files from the device or from the project can be added to the journal. With the mobile app, it is also possible to take pictures directly here. You can find more information on the camera's functionalities in the following section: Camera in the mobile app.

Edit the details

The description and attachments from the project or device can be added in the details. Plan sections can also be added to the journal here. The company involved in the project can also be selected here.

Documents that are saved as favorites are displayed directly when a plan section is added. A search in the folder structure is therefore not necessary. This makes it easier to add plan sections to journal entries. The role makes it possible to create plan sections offline in the mobile app and add them to a journal entry.

Editing the assignment & planning

A responsible person and the due date can be entered in the assignment & planning.

Transfer content from previous journal entry

Once a journal entry has been created, you can then select in a new entry which content is to be copied from the previous entry. This has the advantage that recurring information does not have to be entered again, making the creation of new journal entries much faster and more efficient.

Offline availability in the mobile app

Journal entries can be created offline in the mobile app. To make this role available in the project, the project must first be pinned. The journal entry can then be created. If there is no internet connection when saving, a message appears stating that the entry could not be saved. Saving can be repeated as soon as the Internet connection is available again. This has the advantage that documentation or defects can be recorded directly on the construction site even if the Internet connection is poor.

Camera in the mobile app

In the mobile app, you can select whether the integrated camera or the device camera should be used to take pictures and videos. The integrated camera is activated by default, which allows direct editing and multiple photos to be taken.

You can switch to the device camera via the options. Depending on the device used, additional recording settings are available. However, direct editing after recording is not possible with the device camera and images cannot be recorded in direct succession.
