Viewing Models in VR with Vrex


What is Vrex?

Vrex is a program that allows you to view IFC models and point clouds using a virtual reality headset. The immersive display helps you visualize the model more clearly and develop a better understanding of its dimensions. Vrex also offers the standard roles expected of a model viewer, including measuring, cutting, and filtering models, and much more.


A particular advantage of Vrex is that it was specifically designed for the execution of meetings within the model. Multiple users can explore the model together and discuss issues, using either a VR headset or the desktop app. You can communicate directly within the model, which is especially useful for clarifying issues or answering questions.

What are the benefits of the Vrex integration?

Integrating Vrex with buildagil offers numerous benefits. By connecting the two programs, you can view models from buildagil directly in Vrex. In addition, model tasks can be synchronized between buildagil and Vrex.


This makes it possible to view model tasks created in buildagil within Vrex. At the same time, model tasks created in Vrex can be displayed and further edited in buildagil. This enables seamless integration and collaboration between the two programs.


Open models from buildagil using Vrex


Before proceeding to the following steps, make sure you have completed the Vrex setup: Getting Started with Vrex


To open models from buildagil using Vrex, follow these steps:


Open the Vrex model platform and select the desired project, or create a new project using +.



Under Models, click Add Model Source.



Select "buildagil" from the list.



Select the desired project from the list and click OK.



Select the desired models from the project and click OK.



Now the models from buildagil can be opened using the Vrex Model Viewer.



Select a Standard BCF Source

In the Vrex model platform, you can set the Default issue manager option to buildagil under Settings.
This automatically sets buildagil as the source for model tasks when Vrex is launched.



Open Vrex and load model tasks

The models can now be viewed in the Vrex desktop app using a virtual reality headset.

To open the model, you can launch the Vrex desktop app.


Under Projects, select the appropriate project.



After that, you can select buildagil as the issue manager under Integrations and Room Settings.




Vrex can now be launched in VR or desktop mode.



View models using a virtual reality headset

Once VR mode has been launched, the selected models can be viewed using the virtual reality headset.

Create and View Model Tasks

Thanks to the Vrex integration, it is possible to view model tasks from buildagil in Vrex and create new model tasks in Vrex, which are then automatically synchronized with buildagil.


Create Model Tasks
To create a new model task, click the Create Issue icon and select the project where you want to save the model task.



You can then use the camera function to take a picture with the desired focal point.



The "Speak-to-Text" feature allows you to create a title and description for the model task.



You can leave the settings in the next step at their default values.



Finally, click Save. Once saved, the model task is automatically synchronized with buildagil.



The Edit Issue role can be used to assign a responsible person and categories to the model task.





View Model Tasks
In the Issue Manager, you can view all model tasks for the selected project.



Select the desired project.



All of the project's model tasks will then be displayed.



In the model task, you can open the viewpoints. Clicking the People icon will teleport you to the selected viewpoint.



The Comments section displays all comments related to the corresponding model task. You can also use the Speak-to-Text feature to create new comments here.
