Filtering Model Elements

The filter function allows you to filter models by elements and properties / IFC attributes. You can use the filter settings to create different filter views. You can filter by multiple attributes simultaneously and combine filters to, for example, display all ventilation elements in a model. The filter settings can be saved in Views or Copied. If new elements are added to the model, the views with the filter options are also dynamically updated.



First, select the desired property from the drop-down menu in the "Select Properties" field. If multiple filters are applied to an item, the filters higher up in the list take precedence.


When filtering by IFC types in the Model Viewer, it may happen with very large models that not all types are displayed in the drop-down list. In this case, only a limited number of elements are shown to ensure optimal performance. You can find and use the type you are looking for by entering it manually in the text field.



You can then select the following operators in the filter options and enter the desired values:

  1. = (equal to)
  2. != (not equal to)
  3. ∼ (contains)
  4. !∼ (does not contain)
  5. (greater than)

  6. = (greater than or equal to)

  7. < (less than)
  8. <= (less than or equal to)
  9. O (is defined)
    • (not defined)



In a model, multiple filters can be combined into a group to specify which elements should be displayed. Filter groups can be identified by the hyphen. Multiple filter groups can be used simultaneously. Each filter group functions independently: Within a group, all conditions must be met simultaneously (logical AND), while at least one condition must be met across groups (logical OR). A filter group can be enabled or disabled using the “Enable/Disable” slider.



Using the "Eye and Color Palette Icon," you can select the Visibility Settings and Color of the filtered model elements.



The Visibility Settings and Colors for the unfiltered model elements can be defined via the "Visibility Menu" below the filter settings. By default, unfiltered elements are not displayed in the model viewer or in the structure. When hidden, they are not displayed in the viewer but remain visible in the model structure. In addition, the elements can be displayed as transparent or made visible.



Automatic Filter Creation

The filter generator allows you to automatically create filters in the Model Viewer using artificial intelligence (AI) based on a prompt, rather than defining them manually.



In this process, attributes and their values are identified and directly converted into appropriate filters.



For example, elements and properties in the model can be quickly color-coded, which facilitates visual categorization and analysis.

Clearing Filters

It is possible to clear an applied filter. Doing so resets the view to its original state, while the filter itself remains in place and is not removed. Additionally, the “Clear (Keep View)” option is available. This option clears the filter without resetting the current view. This allows you to create a Model View using a filter, then manually adjust it, and finally save it as a view without an active filter.

You can use the search function to find elements and properties in the model. The element selected in the search is highlighted in the model structure.
