### Filtering Model Elements
The filter function allows you to filter models by elements and properties / IFC attributes. You can use the filter settings to create different filter views. You can filter by multiple attributes at the same time and combine filters to, for example, display all ventilation elements in a model. The filter settings can be saved in [Views](/en/article/model-views-rng9no/) is saved or [Copied](/en/article/creating-and-viewing-bcf-and-model-tasks-c6gbjn/). If new elements are added to the model, the views are dynamically updated with the filter options.

First, select the desired property from the drop-down menu in the "Select Properties" field. If multiple filters are applied to an item, the filters higher up in the list take precedence.

| When filtering by IFC types in the Model Viewer, it may happen with very large models that not all types are displayed in the drop-down list. In this case, only a limited number of elements are displayed to ensure performance. You can find and use the type you are looking for by entering it manually in the text field.

You can then select the following operators in the filter options and enter the desired values:
1. = (equal to)
2. != (not equal to)
3. ∼ (contains)
4. !∼ (does not contain)
5. > (greater than)
6. >= (greater than or equal to)
7. < (less than)
8. <= (less than or equal to)
9. O (is defined)
10. - (not defined)

In a model, multiple filters can be combined into a group to specify which elements should be displayed. Filter groups can be identified by the hyphen. Multiple filter groups can be used simultaneously. Each filter group functions independently: Within a group, all conditions must be met simultaneously (logical AND), while at least one condition must be met across groups (logical OR). A filter group can be enabled or disabled using the “Enable/Disable” slider.

The [Visibility Settings](/en/article/overview-of-models-bim-29wi0x/) and [Colors](/en/article/overview-of-models-bim-29wi0x/) for the unfiltered model elements can be defined via the "Visibility Menu" below the filter settings. By default, unfiltered elements are not displayed in the model viewer or in the structure. When hidden, they are not shown in the viewer but remain visible in the model structure. Additionally, the elements can be displayed as transparent or made visible.

### Automatic Filter Creation
The filter generator allows you to automatically create filters in the Model Viewer using artificial intelligence (AI) based on a prompt, rather than defining them manually.

![](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/d/2/9/f/d29f517da520580/ki-filter-mit-prompt-erstellen_yybm6n.png)

In this process, attributes and their values are identified and directly converted into appropriate filters.

For example, elements and properties in the model can be quickly color-coded, which facilitates visual categorization and analysis.

### Best Practices for Automated Filter Creation
The quality of the automatically created filter depends largely on how the prompt is worded. The following tips and examples will help you achieve the most accurate result possible.

**Tips for Precise Prompts**
* The highest level of precision is achieved when the wording used in the prompt matches the property name stored in the model
* For property names that appear in multiple groups, specifying the property group (e.g., Pset\_WallCommon) can improve recognition
* The exact values of a property can be retrieved via the [Properties of an Element](/en/article/model-assemblies-editing-186ypv5/) and applied to the prompt
* For complex filters, it is recommended to add to the existing prompt step by step rather than rewriting it entirely. After entering the addition, you will be asked whether to overwrite or add to the existing filter; to add to it, select the "Add" option.

* Within the "Localization" property group, "Model (Name)" cannot be searched. To filter by a specific model, use the "Model (File)" property instead.

| The AI filter is particularly well-suited for elements that recur frequently and would otherwise require time-consuming manual filtering. For simple, one-off filters, the effort involved in manual versus automatic creation is comparable.

**Real-World Examples**

**Coloring Based on Wear Behavior**
The purpose of the prompt is to distinguish between load-bearing and non-load-bearing components in the model by color, in order to verify the attributes before the model is processed further by the specialist designers.

`Color all elements with the LoadBearing property set to True green, and those with the property set to False red.`

**Identification of Concrete Pouring Stages**
The purpose of the prompt is to distinguish the individual concrete pouring stages for reinforcement and formwork elements by color in the infrastructure model. If there are multiple files, it is recommended to filter one file first and then add the prompt to the remaining files, rather than specifying all files at once.

`Color all elements with the "Concrete Pour Stage" attribute in different colors in the file 22_ING_301A_North Ground Floor Walls+Columns.`

You can then add to the prompt for the second file instead of writing it new:

`Color all elements with the "Concrete Pour Stage" attribute in different colors in the file 23_ING_301.10A_North Ground Floor Walls+Columns Reinforcement.`

**Coordination Among Trades**
The purpose of the prompt is to highlight the routing of a specific medium in an infrastructure model for coordination meetings, while the remaining model elements are displayed transparently.

`Display all elements with the "Medium = Water" property in blue, and make all other elements transparent.`

### Clearing Filters
It is possible to clear an applied filter. Doing so resets the view to its original state, while the filter itself remains in place and is not removed. Additionally, the “Clear (Keep View)” option is available. This option clears the filter without resetting the current view. This allows you to create a [Model View](/en/article/model-views-rng9no/) using a filter, then manually adjust it, and finally save it as a view without an active filter.

### Searching for Model Elements
You can use the search function to find elements and properties in the model. The element selected in the search is highlighted in the model structure.
