| As an alternative to downloading, documents can also be opened and edited directly in a local program without the need for manual downloading and subsequent uploading. For more information, see the following article: [Opening Folders & Documents in a Local Program](/en/article/opening-folders-documents-in-a-local-program-19y5m5g/).

### Downloading Individual Documents / Folders
Individual documents or folders can be downloaded directly via the three-dot menu. For folders, a ZIP file is created. PDF documents can also be downloaded directly via the QR code. For more information on version verification using QR codes, see the following article: [Version Verification Using a QR Code for PDF Documents](/en/article/version-verification-using-a-qr-code-for-pdf-documents-xcjbrp/). If you need an older version of a document rather than the latest one, you can download it from the version history. For more information, see the following article: [Document Version History](/en/article/document-version-history-1iuorzz/).

### Downloading Multiple Documents / Folders
If multiple documents or folders are selected at the same time, they are downloaded together as a ZIP file. This allows you to efficiently download large amounts of data in a single step. Users with the appropriate visibility for folders and documents can download them. For more information on visibility and permissions, see the following article: [Visibility & Permissions for Folders & Documents](/en/article/visibility-permissions-for-folders-documents-bpho3i/). If you want to share files with people who do not have access to the buildagil project, you can alternatively share them using the [Send externally](/en/article/sending-documents-to-external-contacts-1kbwrau/) so that downloading is not necessary.

### Troubleshooting

| If the following troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, please feel free to contact Support.

* [Troubleshooting Downloading Folders via the Desktop App Using Safari](#3-troubleshooting-issues-when-downloading-folders-using-the-desktop-app-with-safari)

### Troubleshooting Known Download Issues
When downloading documents and folders, the following technical limitations apply regarding file size:

Single file: maximum 250 GB
Multiple files/folders: maximum 20 GB

These restrictions can be circumvented by downloading the files or folders in several steps.

### Troubleshooting Issues When Downloading Folders Using the Desktop App with Safari
When downloading folders via the Safari desktop app, a new tab may open in the Safari browser with no content, and the download may not start. This is due to a limitation of the Safari desktop app, as it does not support downloading folders. Downloading individual files is not affected by this. Alternatively, you can use a different default browser to install the desktop app or use buildagil directly in the Safari browser.
